This exercise helps you learn the single-leg hip hinge with a dowel along your spine that tells you if your back rounds.
Cable Bar Assisted Deadlift
This exercise helps you learn a clean hip hinge with a cable bar held along your spine, anchored high so it lightens your body.
- Starting Position:
- Standing
Start: Face away from the machine, feet shoulder-width apart. Hold the cable bar against your back, anchored from a high cable attachment, touching your head, upper back, and tailbone.
Action:
Push your hips straight back, shins staying vertical, letting your chest lower.
The bar stays touching all three points the whole way — that's what keeps your back from rounding.
At the bottom, drive your hips forward and bring your spine back up to standing tall.
Feel: This should feel easier than an unassisted hinge — that's the point. If the bar loses contact, your back moved.
