Assisted Rolling Upper Body - Supine To Prone

This exercise helps you relearn rolling from your back to your stomach using your arms and eyes, with pads under one side to make it easier.

Start: Stack pads or cushions on the floor and lie on your back with half your body on them, so you're tilted toward the side you'll roll. Arms overhead, feet hip-width apart. Let everything from the waist down go completely relaxed.

Action:

  1. Reach one arm diagonally across your body over the opposite shoulder, the other arm staying overhead.

  2. Follow your hand with your eyes and head as you roll from your back toward your stomach.

  3. Your legs stay relaxed and behind — the upper body pulls them over about halfway through, and they follow until you're face down.

  4. Reverse back to the start. Repeat, then set up on the other side.

Feel: If your legs are kicking or pushing, the drill isn't working. Let the pads and your reach do it. As it gets easy, remove a pad.
